James Carpenter has been the CEO of SurePulse Medical (a University of Nottingham spin-out company) since its inception in 2014. He is responsible for the company’s strategic direction and investment, raising over £9m of financing to support R&D, clinical work and commercialisation. He has taken its first product through CE and FDA regulatory approvals, resulting in SurePulse being awarded multiple Medilink regional and national awards. He is a Royal Academy of Engineering SME Leader.

 

He is an electronic engineer by training. Prior to being CEO of SurePulse, he was a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham in optical photoplethysmographic heart rate sensing, and undertook a PhD in high speed Laser Doppler Blood Flow Imaging. Before that he undertook a MEng in Electronic Engineering, also at the University of Nottingham.
